About Sammy:

Sammy is a young Leonberger/Retriever mix who came to us with his father (Dean) and brother (Sinatra) from a rural shelter that was full. We were told their owner kept them primarily outdoors and eventually decided he know longer wanted them. Sammy is a sweet boy but can be very timid in new situations; we he first came us, he just wanted to hide! It only took a few days for him to become more confident in his surroundings and now he approaches us with a smile and a wagging tail! We believe Sammy will react in much the same way in a new home so his adopter will need to be patient and give him time to settle in. He may very well be a homebody who prefers to stay at home; while he is learning to walk on a leash, once outside of familiar territory, he does revert to wanting to hide. At home, however, we think he will be a great member of the family! Sammy loves other dogs and enjoys play-wrestling with them and sleeping close by. He may benefit from having a confident canine sibling to show him the ropes! We think he would do well with cats, but may do best in a home without very small children. We think Sammy will thrive in a home with patient adopters willing to give him whatever time he needs to decompress!
