About Jed:

Jed is a 2 year old, purebred Bloodhound who came to us after being held for several months on a cruelty hold; Jed’s previous owner tied him out in the yard and then neglected to provide for his needs. When he was taken in, Jed weighed less than 40 lbs and could barely stand on his own — by the time he came to our shelter, he had gained a ton of weight and now weighs in at a whopping 102 lbs! His former owner has been convicted on charges of animal cruelty and Jed is safe with us and in search of a new home! Jed absolutely loves toys; stuffies and balls are his favorite. He tosses them around in the air and catches them in his mouth, and will retrieve and return balls to you if you’re in the mood to play fetch. Jed does already know how to sit on command and very much enjoys human companionship; he bonds closely very quickly and will get very excited to see you! Jed is also a big, sensitive baby with sad eyes and a droopy face. He knows exactly how to get his way. He will press his head right into your chest for scratches and will whine when you leave. Despite his breed, Jed does not seem to be very vocal unless he finds reason to be. However, he is very, very strong and will follow his nose to the end of the world; a strong handler and a fenced in yard are required for this big boy. Jed hasn’t yet been introduced to other dogs but shows signs of doing okay; however, due to his size, strength, and his tendency to guard food (can you blame him?), Jed should go to a home without children. Jed takes treats gently and has no issues giving up his toys; we have been working on his food guarding habits and he has already shown signs of progress, but will need continued training in his new home.
